Literature Text

It's a long fall from the top
Rejected by the sky
Nobody is perfect
Certainly not I

I was up in heaven
Everything was mine
I threw it all away
And now I'm doing time
For the crime

It feels as if I'm dead
Would you believe me if I said

[chorus]
I once was an angel
Living in the clouds
Suddenly my world
All came crashing down
On me

I am wanted by no one
Not for anything
Shunned by every beggar
Mocked by every king

It took me this long
To see the error of my ways
Unfortunately for me
It is far too late
For me to change

It feels as if I'm dead
Would you believe me if I said

[chorus]
I once was an angel
Living in the clouds
Suddenly my world
All came crashing down
On me

[bridge]
There's no place I can hide
And nowhere left to turn
A tragic lesson I
Have had to learn

I once was an angel
Believe me when I say
Follow not my example
There's a better way
Live not just for sin
For pleasure and fun
Do as I do now
But not as I have done

[chorus]
For I once was an angel
Living in the clouds
Suddenly my whole world
All came crashing down

I once was an angel
And I've seen it all
Take care in your actions
Don't let your world fall
On you
This is yet another poem that has been a while in the making. It was inspired when I saw this piece ([link]) of the same title by ~liallan. I saw it when it was a Daily Deviation, which was roughly a year ago. I took down the title and am just now writing the song to accompany it. I decided against trying to use the artwork for the preview of the poem, as much as I'd like to. But the one I have should suffice.

I guess this is about falling from the top. Lord knows, we can't be there all the time. But this is more about the mistakes we make that cause us to fall. Enjoy. [nz]

This is so sad...it's also very well written. You really get a feeling of how destroyed this person feels, like they can never go back and never have another chance to make ammends.
